Towards Ray Tracing Benchmark Using Video Games Data Extraction

Abstract: We propose a novel benchmarking concept for ray tracing and report initial results obtained by the underlying software framework. We aim to create an alternative to the traditional models used in research by leveraging assets and scenes from modern video games. We describe the methodology for extracting geometry by injecting a custom tool into a modern ray-traced game and present preliminary results. Should the respective rights holders agree and grant us explicit permission, we would be pleased to release the captured datasets that reflect current industry standards to the research community.
